If you want to give your child great pleasure and have the necessary space on your property or in your garden, you can even build this popular play equipment yourself. After all, visiting the playground, depending on the distance, is not always possible. Read in the following sections how you can realize such a project. You will be surprised how much easier the implementation is ultimate than one would generally assume.
Build your own swing: step by step
The top priority when building a swing is the safety of the child. In this context, it is important to make some elementary considerations in advance and to include essential safety-relevant parameters in the planning. This starts with a suitable location. Here you have to make sure that no trees, shrubs, fences, walls, clotheslines, or other elements protrude into the flywheel radius of the swing.
Also as far as the underground is concerned, you should consider it a very decisive factor. Even if a surface made of wood or stone promises a stable stand for the swing, you always have to expect that your child may fall down after all. Under no circumstances should this happen with a hard floor. Serious injuries are inevitable here. Sand, gravel, or bark mulch have proven to be considerably safer in this context. These absorb a possible fall much better and thus protect the child.
Preparatory work
In the further course of the preparatory measures, it is also important to ensure a safe stand of the swing. Tipping over or even collapse of the playground equipment could have fatal consequences. From this point of view, stable materials must first be used. Wood is still the raw material of choice for this. In the next step, you should fill or layout the area provided for this purpose with the selected substrate material.
For the actual construction you now need the following utensils:
4 round beams with a length of 3 meters and a diameter of 12 centimeters
2 round beams with a length of 1.5 meters and also a diameter of 12 centimeters
1 round beam with a length of 2.5 meters and a diameter of 15 centimeters
Suspension elements for the swing (e.g. hooks)
Swing seat Ropes
10 bolts with a thread of 30 centimeters in length and 12 millimeters in diameter
20 washers and nuts (M12)
Grit and concrete
Build a frame
For the frame, you should first dig 4 holes with a depth of about 50 centimeters, each of which results in a square 2 meters apart. In these holes, you then tilt the grit up to half the height. Keep in mind that the chains for the seat should be at least 2 meters long. In addition, it is advisable to set up the seat a maximum of half a meter above the floor, so that your child can easily climb up and down independently.
Next steps:
The 2 three-meter-long beams are placed on the floor and crossed at about 2.5 meters.
Connect the beam to the threaded bolts. (With washer on both sides and nut)
Connect 1.5-meter beams vertically with both long beams, so that an “A” is created optically. à Same with the other side.
Attach the suspension for the chains of the seat to the 15-centimeter thick beam, which acts as an upper crossbar.
Set up the frame and fix it on the floor
Now it’s time to position the finished frame correctly. For this, it is necessary to tip the four holes in the ground, which have already been filled up to half with grit, to the upper edge with concrete. Now the frame is placed accordingly in the holes, aligned, and held in position until the concrete solidifies.
Attach the swing seat
Now you are already on the home stretch. Finally, only the swing seat needs to be attached.
Our tip: The 3in1 swing from Happy People grows with your child. Thus, the baby swing seat can be converted into a chair swing with a backrest and from the recommended age of 5 to a board swing. A height-adjustable 3-point seat belt provides additional safety in infancy.
Big children prefer nest swings, like this one from Happy People, because they are big enough to swing in pairs or to lie alone on their backs.
If you do not have a finished seat available, you can also quickly make your own. All you have to do is cut a board at least 5 millimeters thick to 30 x 25 centimeters and provide it with drill holes at all four corners, in which the screws are placed with steel rings. These are now only connected to the ropes by means of stable hooks and the down swing is ready.
Alternative: Tree swing
As a popular DIY alternative, a so-called tree swing is also recommended. A branch at least 20 centimeters thick, which is as parallel as possible to the ground, is provided with 2 eye bolts at least 25 centimeters long, which are secured above the branch with nuts.best baby swing frames carabiner hooks now connect the eyelet at the bottom of the bolts with the ropes for the swing. As far as the seat is concerned, the assembly is essentially the same as in the above example. In any case, you will ultimately be rewarded for your work with the most valuable of all currencies; namely the joyful glitter in the eyes of your children.
